GUWAHATI: Former Chief Justice of India and current Rajya Sabha member Ranjan Gogoi's autobiography will be released.
Justice for the Judge is a provocative title which includes the series of events, judgements; controversies including sexual allegations made against him are written.
The Rafale case, which involves allegations of corruption relating to the purchase of French fighter jets and contempt proceedings against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks about the case; petitions to allow women to enter Kerala's Sabarimala temple; Assam's National Register of Citizens; and the much-debated judgement on the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya Is also included in the list.
Speaking at the launch of his book, Gogoi spoke about the issues, during his tenure as the chief justice of India, in retrospect; "I should not have sat on the bench as a judge (which heard alleged sexual harassment case against him). My 45 years of hard effort at the bar and on the bench had been squandered. It would have been preferable if I hadn't been on the bench. We all make errors" he said.
In 2019, a former Supreme Court clerk accused him of sexually assaulting her, and the Supreme Court took cognizance of her charges, forming a three-judge bench led by Justice Gogoi. An in-house committee of three judges, led by Justice S A Bobde, later gave him a clean bill of health. Two female judges, Justices Indu Malhotra and Indira Banerjee, were also on the committee.
In the event Justice Gogoi stated that he did not meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi even once during his tenure as Chief Justice of India and that those who took photos with him have now become activist judges.
He stated, "I did not resurrect Ayodhya" when asked about the Ayodhya case and claims of sidet racking human rights cases. It's a task that my predecessor assigned to me and set a deadline for. I had two choices: flee or fight. I come from a family of fighters, remarked Justice Bobde, therefore I fought.
The book is gaining a lot of popularity, and people are waiting to read the book as the events are all fascinating to the public.
